Italian painter Piero Scanziani established a breeding kennel in order to turn the mastiff-type dogs of Italy into the Neapolitan Mastiff, a formal breed. Neapolitan Mastiffs were considered to be a mix of a Lion, Gargoyle, and Mollosser.
